1984

Freepers discuss famed socialist George Orwell's book. This oughta be good.

Signalman knows what libs think of the book!

Liberals don’t like “1984” because it shows how communism destroys the human spirit.
KarlInOhio thinks liberals love the villain:

Every conservative can see himself as Winston Smith being abused by the government. Every liberal can see himself as O'Brien strapping a rat cage to someone's face for his own good.
EQAndyBuzz is pretty sure MSNBC's rage is all 1984.

The reader may surmise that a political opposition to the Democrat Party—namely, George Bush—was psychologically necessary in order to provide an internal enemy posing a threat to the rule of the DNC-Media Complex; the constantly reiterated ritual of the Two Minutes Hate help ensure that popular support for and devotion towards the Democrat Party is continuous.

Basically it is watching the last two minutes of any MSNBC show.

None is so blind as those who refuse to see.

AustralianConservative thinks liberals don't even know what 1984 is!
Conservatives tend to be more well-read.
AustralianConservative again, reiterating the "Liberals love the bad guys" idea:
Some leftists take all the bad characters from a good book as role models. They did the same with the Bible.
Yeah, libs love them some Satan.

Peter Libra gets lyrical, but then has some syntactical issues:
For there is poor Winston Smith, utterly and completely beaten. He is sitting at a cafe, drinking cheap "victory gin". As a tear trickles down his cheek, he realises that he "loves Big Brother".

This is the high water mark of any liberal. Rather than seeing those who oppose them, defiant to the last, even in defeat, they sunder those people and bring them on side. We have seen conservatives coming on side and joining the club, just to be accepted by the liberals.

Orwell had it that when one finally gives in and is seduced into liking their adversary, Big Brother has won.

Stand fast Conservatives.

  1. Ever notice how Freepers always accuse Democrats of being fascist, ignoring the law and the Constitution and being evil but then they vote for and support Republicans who act the exact same way? It's truly a mentality of IOKIYAR.

  2. What I like is that they don't think liberals don't get the book's thesis, they think liberals actually love the evil fascist bad guys.

I dare say even on liberal fora, you do not hear "Republicans totally love Darth Vader and they want to be Vader and were sad when the Emperor died!"

I dunno about that... When Episode 2 came out, the neocon rag The Weekly Standard published an article titled "The Case for the Empire". Choice quote:

Make no mistake, as emperor, Palpatine is a dictator--but a relatively benign one, like Pinochet. It's a dictatorship people can do business with. They collect taxes and patrol the skies. They try to stop organized crime (in the form of the smuggling rings run by the Hutts). The Empire has virtually no effect on the daily life of the average, law-abiding citizen.

  4. @Anonymous,
I think Ozy's point was you don't typically hear Democrats and liberals saying that stuff about Republicans and conservatives while the reverse is much more common.

  5. @ anonymous

Pinochet was by no means benign even by dictator standards
