Obama ate dog

 via an anon.

One of the reasons partitions on either side don't have a sense of humor is that they jokes not as fun, but as weapons.  Thus, this thread: DO STEWART & COLBERT KNOW OBAMA ATE A DOG?

Needless to say, Colbert has indeed covered it. But the Right Wing Blogosphere is running with the double-standard narrative.

reasonisfaith thinks this is serious business:
I would say it’s important that Americans know which candidates on the ballot have eaten dogs and which haven’t.
jimbo123 also thinks this is no joke:
Obama and his third-world brethren eating dog meat is not “exotic.” It’s sick.
Uncle Slayton brings it:
How do you know Obama has not eaten dog or cat as an adult and fed it to his children or guests at the White House?
muawiyah thinks dogs are born trained:
There are very few animals you can whistle to and they'll come and jump up in your arms ~ where you can slaughter them with little fuss and bother. What did you imagine that behavior was about?

[Stewart and Colbert] would let Obama eat them. They are the worst cowards America has ever known.

Romney over Obama, sold.

  1. I like that the RWNJs are trying to make this some sort of "gotcha" moment for 2012. Eating dog is certainly disgusting and a taboo in Western civilization.

However, how are you supposed to hold a kid responsible for that? It's similar to how some people tried to brand Pope Benedict as a Nazi because as a 12 year old he was put in the Hitler Youth, forcibly. The Pope example is obviously more extreme, but in both cases its ethically wrong to pillory children who have no choice or knowledge as to what they're doing, or are otherwise under duress.

You don't blame a young Obama for his stepdad's gross and ignorant dietary practices and you don't blame a pre-teen Pope for what Hitler and the SS were doing.

And I don't even like Obama.

  2. Why is it disgusting to eat dog? Some people have bunnies for pets. Yet I've eaten rabbit. Some farm people raise chickens or pigs as pets. Is it wrong to eat them? Horses, whales, rats, scorpians, etc. are all normal food in other parts of the world. Just because you've never seen it in your grocery store doesn't mean it's morally wrong to eat.

In summation, there's a difference between eating A DOG and eating YOUR DOG.

    1. I tried using that reasoning on some RWNJs. All I got back was "dogs are CUTE!" and "Obama eats dogs!"

    2. I think the taboo is what drives the disgust. Of course, an Indian Hindu would find me eating cow to be disgusting. Same for a Muslim watching me eat bacon.

I guess objectively speaking, there's nothing particularly worse about eating dog vs. chicken. But, we don't live in a vacuum, so our cultural taboos will drive our tastes.

My personal issue with cultures that eat animals like that is that they tend to be very abusive toward animals in general (I've heard they boil cats alive - urban legend maybe, but if true, absolutely horrifying). That and they tend to eat these animals not for subsistence but for reasons that are safe to say are completely regressive and frankly, pathetically stupid. Stuff like consuming an animal to take on its properties. Or eating certain animals in order to increase sexual potency or as an aphrodisiac.

I mean, come on folks, it's not the 4th Century BC. You want to get sex? Treat your woman nicely. Want to be more masculine and powerful? Hit the gym and take a course on assertive behavior.

I equate such dietary beliefs with poaching gorillas to use their hands as ashtrays.

But yeah, the RWNJ reasoning for pursuing this is simply to dig at Obama anyway possible. I can imagine if he said he refused to eat dog, the Freepers would accuse him of not wanting to be a real man from eating it and inheriting its strengths. Or some homophobic joke that "Well, he doesn't eat p**sy, so why would we expect him to eat dog?"
