Pyrrhic, spiteful and expensive

The legion strikes again!

So this past Saturday, there was a symbolic thing called 'earth hour' sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, where one should turn out the lights for an hour. Some countries' national monuments even got into the deal.

It seems like harmless feel-good solidarity and publicity stuff to me, but Freepers, always ready to revel in stymieing their perceived enemies in petty ways, have plans. Pyrrhic, spiteful and expensive plans to conquer this symbolic publicity stunt:

novascotianative is super excited:

Oh, I can’t wait. Every light is going on.
Stupid liberals!!!
al baby's spite hour makes for some weird behavior.

I just zip tied the trigger on my 2 sawalls and one skill saws ready to watch um whirl
South Hawthorne has a plan:

I really don't feel like paying for the electricity, so I'm going to buy six sleeves of Styrofoam cups, unwrap them, and run them over in the grocery store parking lot.
Bonus, the store is just east of the Delaware river, take that, stupid fishes.
I'd be more shocked if I thought he'd actually get off his ass to do this.

left that other site wants to get in on the action, but has a pleasant evening out planned:

I will be attending a live production of the musical “Beauty and The Beast” at Calvary Chapel Theater, with it’s Beautiful new theater filled with Lighting, computerized sets and staging, Huge amplified sound system, and use lots and lots of electricity!

Also participate with fellow Christians in what promises to be an evening filled with fun, music, art, and fellowship.

That is what I think of Earth Hour!

tcrlaf has not yet mastered the ability to multithread manufactured outrage, so he's forced to go nonsequitor:

“Earth Hour” was LAST YEARS’s Current Truth, this year’s current truth is LYNCHING a Hispanic Guy with a Jewish-sounding last name, so that blacks will be angered enough to show up and vote for OBAMA in 2006.
FormerACLUmember argues that caring about the environment means you hate technology:

Every day is Earth Day in Socialist North Korea. It is totally dark except for the ruling families' palace (the local Obama Regime) in Pyongpeng.
Turn on all your lights for Human Achievement Day!
Screw Earth, Human Achievement is the hubristic way to go!

Ancient Wonderboy thinks he's fighting the cold war:

Earth Day was (originally) a COMMUNIST celebration designed to weaken the U.S. from within. That is why the day was set, not by coincidence, on the birthday of Karl Marx.
This is, of course, nonsense. But facts never get in the way of Freepers' self-confirming paranoia!
lovesdogs loves how not all liberals are in lockstep about this minor thing Freepers have defeated through the power of their high electricity bills:

Just took a peek outside and guess what? My crazy libtard cross street neighbor took you up on your invite; her house is lit like a Christmas tree. Is this the day that Rush sends his plane coast to coast for no reason? Or is that another nutty made up observance day?
As they caper and gloat, they're all so gleeful and happy! But it kind of makes them weirdly pathetically winning, like the Grinch, or Gollum.

  1. Article about that Catholic Church in Denmark that castrated boys in the 1950s. So I looked at this thread thinking, "There is no way these assholes can defend this," but they proved me wrong again:

They are all over the board on this and it's all vile. I love it.
