Legitimate rape

I'm early!  Yay?

Here is an interesting case - Todd Akin's remarks that when a woman is "legitimately raped" that the body secretes secretions that make pregnancy unlikely.

Freepers know this is politically damaging, but at the same time, many of them want to believe that bullcrap science, since it will make being ultra-pro-life just a wee bit more reasonable seeming. (Showing they don't have the courage of their convictions - if one accepts that a fetus is a full person, then why all the fancy footwork?)

The results are about as Freepish as you might expect:

The best are those Freepers that try something, and then no one else backs them up.  Like meadsjn tries to make Akin into a liberal:
Todd Akin, RINO candidate for US Senate, bought and paid for by Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill.
Or MNJohnnie thinks this ain't no big thing:
McDonnell smear job take two. Did not work in VA, will not work in MO any better
Or AnotherUnixGeek uses Republicans acting dumb to show why we need small government:

On both sides of the aisle, the American political class is increasingly composed of people too stupid to make it in private industry - if the report on what this guy said is true, he’s a prime example.
Many Freepers join CountryClassSF, who  is surprised how politicians seem to think this Akin guy is toxic:
Biggest shock is watching how quickly GOP establishment will throw Akin under.
McCaskill is Obama’s favorite Senator.....Does getting back the GOP majority and removing McCaskill no longer a big deal to these fools?
A conservative literally cannot make a human error in speech without the selective outrage crowd pouncing. I’ve never seen anything like it
Yeah...this was no 'error of speech.'

SoFloFreeper knows this was taken out of context:

My goodness, so many Republicans are soooo anxious to believe the Obamugabe ass-licking media....and throw our own folks overboard without checking context....

mlizzy just repeats what Akin said:
I think he meant "actual" rape, correct? Because what he says is true to my knowledge. The stress of rape can keep a woman from conceiving.
SCIENCE!

SoFloFreeper notes that this story was reported in the MSM, so it's probably all lies.
feel free to take every Republican statement at face value—and accept the spin the media puts on it...don’t read it all....just buy it.
Enjoy your private little media-made hell. It’ll never stop.
Did you buy the crap they said about Reagan, too? Palin? Are you going to buy the crap they’re saying about Paul Ryan?
It is all coming down the pike, all to distract from their record.
BTW, Akin also referenced doctors who had spoken to him about it....but let’s ignore that, too, ‘cause the media is trying to scare the ill-informed.
cdcdawg allows that this was bad, but keeps in mind that the enemy is worse:
Good grief! That’s almost Bidenesque. Not quite, but almost.
hcmama also tries to use this to bootstrap into keeping the Biden-is-too-stupid drumbeat:
"If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."
His pro-life views not withstanding, that is what Aiken said
It defies biology.
It defies logic.
It defies common sense.
It sounds like something Joe Biden would say.
Joe Biden is an idiot.
Aiken sounds like an idiot.
ApplegateRanch brings out the straw-feminists!
“Legitimate rape”: The act of consensual sexual intercourse between a husband and wife, per the feminazis.
“Illegitimate rape”: Any other act of consensual sexual intercourse, whether or not coerced*, between a man and a womyn, per the same source.
“Rape-rape”: Any act of forcibly coerced sexual intercourse, per the same source.
Per the feminazis ANY sexual intercourse between a man and a womyn is some form of rape.
*Coerced” can include in return for payment, whether in cash, in goods or services, or in kind.

Assault Rape Pregnancies Are Rare

 ...
A woman is capable of being fertilized only 3-6 days of a 30-day month. Multiply our figure of 133,000 by by 0.3. Three days of 30 reduces to 1 of 10. Divide 133,000 by 10, and we have 13,300 women remaining. If we use 5 days of 30, then we have 1 of 6. Divide 133,000 by 6 and there are 22,166 women remaining.
One-fourth of all women in the U.S. of childbearing age have been sterilized, so the remaining three-fourths comes to 10,000 (or 15,000).
 ...
In an average population, the miscarriage rate is about 15%. In this case, we have incredible emotional trauma. Her body is upset. Even if she conceives, the miscarriage rate will be higher than in a more normal pregnancy. If 20% of raped women miscarry, the figure drops to 450 (or 740).
Finally, factor in what is certainly one of the most important reasons why a rape victim rarely gets pregnant, and that’s psychic trauma. Every woman is aware that stress and emotional factors can alter her menstrual cycle. To get and stay pregnant a woman’s body must produce a very sophisticated mix of hormones
Speculation,double-dipping miscarriage, and hiding the actual pregnancy rate (which is the same as with consensual intercourse.)

Reaganez prefers to just make up numbers:

Men get raped. Check out any prison with men in it.
There are about 2 pregnancies for every 1000 cases of forcible rape, not statutory rape.
This is mostly a red herring be the LEFT.
 W. W. SMITH never needs to know the facts, just party affiliations.
Even fans of Sarah Palin, who was successfully demonized by the Left, have this Pavlovian response to attack any conservative the Left tell them to.
My Pavlovian response has always been to defend whoever the left is attacking.
Mr Rogers bravely advocates for due process for those accused of rape:
I’ll say this: If a girl goes on a date with a guy, invites him into her apartment, is surrounded by other people who never hear any protest and there is no physical evidence of force, and it takes her several days to decide it was rape, then it doesn’t meet the definition of rape, IMHO.
I’m all in favor of executing rapists. But I’m not in favor of blindly taking a woman’s word that a sexual act was rape...

  1. It isn't exactly from FR, but something you will definitely get a chuckle out of - a story that was posted then disappeared as suddenly as it came.
Fortunately, google cache still has it at http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:G8dGGXtPPdAJ:beforeitsnews.com/lgbt/2012/08/lgbt-groups-aligning-with-radical-right-organizations-2436292.html+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk

If it disappears, a copy is available on TBL. http://www.trueblueliberty.com/index.php/topic,16566.msg155509.html#msg155509

  2. This whole situation just goes to show that the more vehemently anti-abortion someone is, the less they know about reproductive biology.

I was watching tonight's Rachel Maddow show, and according to her tomorrow is the deadline that Akin could drop out and the Republicans would still be able to field another candidate for the seat he's running for. Otherwise it's either Akin running or the democrat running unopposed for the seat or some kinda court trickery that i didn't follow too well.

I'm kinda hoping Akin stays in and gets called out on exactly what the "secretion" is that prevents pregnancy in a "legitimate" rape.
