Paul Ryan Sunday Special!

Romney's Veep Candidate has been announced. I think it's a smart pick, as it will inject at least some novelty into the Romney campaign's Dole-esque quagmire.
but what do I know. My little hobby here has pretty much wrecked my general idea of what normal people think - in 2008 I was terrified of Fred Thompson, and in 2012 I was sure Perry could thread the crazy-yet-seems-normal needle.

Anyhow, Freepers are turned pretty inward at this point, and spend most of their time either trying to make themselves feel better or worse, depending on their particular quirk.

Cletus.D.Yokel thinks Biden is out.
I’m predicting the Slow Joe will be replaced, sooner than later. He may even be Walpin’d to get him out.

DNC knows that Biden v Ryan will be a disaster.
This starts a bunch of speculation that Colin Powell or, natch, Hillary will be the REAL Obama VP. I think Biden is just to affable for Freepers to properly hate him, so they keep fantasizing about his replacement with a proper nemesis. chiller is now convinced Romney is secretly all Freeperish:
Both were quite vocal in their announcement today...about Obiecare, and RTL. I suspect Mitt may be a closest conservative. I’m putting no credence to his record among the libs in Massachusetts.
BeauBo thinks a Dream Team Administration is in play!
Paul Ryan is a quality hire - exceptionally competent and dynamic. This bodes well for governance.

One of Romney’s trademarks at Bain was in recruiting and cultivating talent. Two of our greatest Presidents - Ronald Reagan and George Washington - were exceptional in their ability to pick quality people for top jobs, and give them the authority and support to excel.

On the stage after Ryan’s announcement, I got the impression of Romney as a senior executive with that kind of emotional security and maturity - to manage for the long term good of the organization.

He seemed confident in Ryan, and content to let him take some limelight - almost like a proud parent.

This also shows that he is not averse to recruiting TEA Party favorites and principled conservatives for top jobs.

The potential exists for a “Dream Team” administration.

Personnel is policy, as they say in D.C.

I am so stoked!
cotton1706 thinks Ryan may be the new Richard Nixon!
We’ve heard a lot lately about a return the the 1950’s. Historically, I see a lot of similarity to the Eisenhower-Nixon ticket of 1952. The image of an above it all leader, no doubt a republican but more middle of the road than leaning right, and a very young member of congress who’s very articulate and well-versed on current issues and representative of the more ideological wing of the party.

I’m feeling good about the ticket. I would have been depressed with a Portman or Pawlenty and nervous about a Rubio. I feel energized. With this ticket, we may be able to sweep the democrats out of power as Ike and Dick did sixty years ago.
muawiyah is still not convinced
Still can't get my vote ~ not even if he had Jesus running with him.
GailA is likewise not voting for Romney:
Criteria does the head of the ticket meet Bible and Constitutional standards? Answer is NO! VP has no power. True power lies in CONGRESS they write and pass the laws.
Wait...so if it's up to Congress, why is that your litmus test for President?

randita thinks all the gays and married women are gonna swoon:
Romney's well, Romney. Okay, but not Clinton as far as appeal goes.

Paul Ryan has Paul Newman baby blues, a hairline that rivals Judge Napolitano's, and the clean cut image of the guy you'd love to take home to meet Mom and Dad. That means a lot in the age of superficiality.

Two demographics Ryan will appeal to are married women (who would like their husbands to be just like him) and metrosexuals (of either sex).
netmilsmom thinks Ryan's wonkishness is very appealing, cause everyone loves "Big Bang Theory."
It’s the age of Nerds. Young people think that nerds are smart thanks to “Big, Bang Theory”. They think they are the problem solvers.
CrazyIvan sucks at making strawman political smears:
I predict that the rats will purposely confuse him with George Ryan and the media will go right along, with microscopic retractions when caught. How many sheeple still think Sara Palin said she can see Russia from her house?
School of Rational Thought suggests a new campaign theme based on the fact that Romney rules and Obama drools:
A great contrast can be drawn between a Romney Ryan team vs. Obama Biden.

Intellectual heft vs. the dumbest president in history and the gaffe machine
Sophistication vs. the vulgar Chicago crowd
The exceptional achievers vs. the affirmative action appointed
hal ogen agrees - Obama sucks, so go Romney!
nobama hates Free America and is a fascist socialist.

Romney loves Free America and is a capitalist.

Ryan is a great choice.

Come together and support a pro-Free-Amrica team. To do otherwise is to support nobama.
happydogx2 looks forwards to the debates:
will Ryan be able to match the giant intellect of Joe Biden when they debate?

It might be the first time a network stops a debate at the 2nd question outa mercy.
Yeah, like when Palin destroyed Biden?

Sudetenland is happy, he tells ya; happy!
I'm not a big Romney fan, but I do respect him personally and I respect his credentials. With Ryan added to the ticket, I am perfectly happy--not as much as if the top of the ticket was more conservative--but happy.
DNME knows opposition research is a'workin:
I just hope that Ryan doesn’t have one, single, tiny thing hidden. Obummer has a track record of getting “sealed” documents unsealed and other people’s secrets exposed. (Though not his own, of course.) In fact, I’m amazed that Romney’s tax returns haven’t been released by the IRS, illegal though that may be ...
I love this Freeper pattern - exaggerate, and then note that the existence of an obvious counterexample is surprising to make you seem legit:

depressed in 06 worries Ryan may not hate liberals with enough paranoia:
But, I would have liked someone who understands that the greatest threat to the republic is Bolshies in the bureaucracy. Allen West or John Bolton would be more effective there.

  1. Freepers are making a big deal out of this but folks who were going to vote Republican anyway aren't going to be excited by this pick. Ryan doesn't seem to be bringing much to the table. How is Ryan helping to win the swing states? I just don't see it.

    1. The fact that when Mitt announced Paul as his running mate and they collected 3.5 million dollars in donations in 24 hours after that announcement should tell even you something.....

      Delete
    2. Obama is supposedly spending 1 billion dollars in this race and Romney will be collecting and spending even more.

3.5 million is .0035% of one billion.

      Wow, an increase of .0035%

      Delete
    3. "Will be collecting and spending" ??? BWAHAHAHAHA...what do u have a crystal ball?? Obama has outspent Romney this entire election cycle. In June Obama took in 46 million but spent 58 million. He runs his campaigns like he runs the economy, with deficit spending! For 3.5 million in campaign donations Obama would suck every sailor at Norfolk VA!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Look here and get the facts dude....

    4. Change the subject much?

      0.0035% is nothing.

    5. Not at all, your .0035 is now .0035 more than Obama has.....

      Delete
    6. Thanks for being a good sport about this. OK, we will take the 0.0035% loss.

      Delete
    7. You are both wrong. 3.5 million is 0.0035 or 0.35% of one billion (and although Stanley dropped the "%" I'll still claim he is ignorant of the true value). And they say our math and science doesn't need improvement...

  2. I like this comment:

"He seemed confident in Ryan, and content to let him take some limelight - almost like a proud parent."

I didn't watch the TV footage, but I can visualize the expression, since I have seen it in pictures. The problem with the above observation is that Romney seems to always have this expression--self satisfied, just beaming with delight at the joy of being Mitt Romney. He probably has the same expression when he successfully decides what Danish to have for breakfast. It does not say anything about his choice of Paul Ryan.

  4. Since this is a Sunday Special, I had a look around.

    CNN has a story,

Bold VP pick could woo key voters
(the headline changes when you go from the front page to the actual article, but let's see whom Ryan can woo)
    http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/11/politics/romney-ryan/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

"Ryan, 42, is considered a policy wonk and conservative Catholic likely to energize the GOP base and sharpen the campaign's focus on government spending and the economy.
That could boost Romney's appeal among middle-of-the-road Catholic voters in battleground states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania, though Ryan offers little in the way of foreign policy experience."

That's it? Again, it does not look like Ryan is bringing much to the table.

  5. Ryan is a dream pick for team Obama. Now they can run ads in Florida saying that Romney/Ryan wants to end Medicare and watch as Florida goes deep blue.

    1. euphgeek! How you doing?

There is a good article in Salon today, here is the best part,

"In the 70s, of course, Ryan’s GOP won over the white working class with these sorts of anti-welfare appeals, and at the time it was understood that the takers weren’t white. The toughest issue for today’s GOP is that increasingly, government takers are white; many are white seniors, the core of the GOP base."

You would do your side a much better favor getting the real information out there to the Dems instead of helping to cover for Obama all the time. Lying to your base and yourself by surrounding yourself with Obama's obedient media lap dogs and feeling all comfy about it is just lulling yourself into a false sense of security. But the real information is out there and it is going to hit your side like a tidal wave. Pull your head out, get the real facts (not the ones that make you feel better), and start having your base address their serious deficiencies. If you don't, come election day your going to standing there with that Carter-Regean after-taste that you won't be able to get out of your mouth no matter how much you lick Larry O'Donnell's ass....

    7. Oh, I'm sorry that the vid was posted at Newsbusters!! But since PolitiFact has their problems and nobody watches MSNBC and CNN's rating have completely tanked and Newsweek mag the print version is gone and will soon even be off the internet and with the NYT and WaPo going bankrupt there just not many lib rags left that threw their intergrity out the window when they went completely in the bag for Obama. Here's one of Wolf Blitzer trying not to get fired as CNN revises their line up and political leanings in a very desperate attempt to look unbiased by literally frying DWS over the same lies euphgeek was trying to push:

    10. Gosh, you're right, I can't think of a single thing Obama has improved other than the economy, the stock market, job growth and health care. I don't see how he's going to get re-elected, especially since his opponent is specifically not torpedoing his own campaign.

      Delete
    11. BWAHAHAHAHAHA... Yeah, keep telling yourself that, I already schooled you on those outrageous lies earlier this year ...but lets review, shall we?? BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

      http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnnyshop/6196456311/sizes/o/in/photostream/

Mittens has done nothing to torpedo his campaign, he is letting all the lies Obama directly tells and the media biases catch up with themselves. He is sitting back laughing his mormon ass off that he has not had to spend near the money on attack ads all the while watching Obama's popularity drop because people are so sick of the mean spirited antics. Remember how I told you to spend your time being constructive instead of wasting it trying to prop up Obama? What's the definition of insanity again? HAHAHAHAHAHA

      Delete
    12. Yup! Because Mitt Romney isn't losing at all! Just because he's losing in the polls and in the electoral college, and people increasingly don't like him doesn't mean he's going to lose the presidential race, right?

    13. I guess if you think saving the economy is having record numbers of people on unemployment and food stamps then Obama is doing a great job! BWAHAHAHAHAHAAH

    14. Yep, despite Republicans' best efforts he did save the economy. Good thing he's going to be re-elected in November.

    15. Math & History time for euphgeek!!

Let's see what the democrats have controlled during the last 5 years:

Senate 5 out of 5 years

House 4 out of 5 years

White House 3 out of 5 years

If all are given equal weighting when considering checks/balances...

      (5 + 4 +3 )/ 15 = 80%

OR put another way, the democrats have controlled 80% of the government going on 5 years. When did the financial crisis occur? 3 years ago.

Who was in charge of oversight prior to the collapse? The senate which
as mentioned has been under control for 5 years by the democrats.

But let's not forget the meme that it's all Bushes fault... Yeah right.

      Delete
    16. Yup, because the economy always starts over at zero every time we get a new president. And also, nothing is ever a Republican's fault.
