Obama's Reelection Meltdown Part I: Go Galt

Freeperland brushes up against reality, and it does not go well.

This is a particular moment - Freepers' total state of denial has left them without a saving narrative, so you can see them ideologically naked and scrambling for some way to cover a bet they've been doubling down on for the last four years. I have no idea what you do when you've gone full Apocalypse, but we'll soon find out!

Furst, popular demand of the commenters here are Freepers' attempts to channel their desparea and impotent rage into actions based on an ideological sci-fi novel. This soon devolves into angry tips on cutting expenses.

meyer has mixed up gong Galt with living frugally:
I’m going Galt on the spending side only, choosing not to give up my job (unless it gives me up first). They’d just fill it with someone else so the net effect would be bad for me, not so much for anyone else.
unixman9627 strikes a blow through internet giveaways!
Don’t know if you can go completely Galt, but you can target your spending you have to do. Do things like avoid left leaning companies, Amazon. Do not buy things made in Blue States. That is some of my plans.

Last time Obama won I also went to every blue States web site and ordered as much free crap as they had to offered, i. e. travel brochures, etc. Did the same thing with some left leaning groups just to cost them some money that they will never get back from me.

I also like to give tips in cash, not put them on my CC.
VRWCRick is holding off on a new computer purchase! BOOYA!
I was going to buy a new Mac Mini to replace this Mac which is several years old. I will just keep running the old one. It still works but won’t run the new OS. So what! I’ll just load Linux.

I may get rid of my satellite TV and some other things. I am certainly not going to be spending much money now, except for living expenses.
Windcatcher is going to keep rearing his car way beyond when it's economical. FOR FREEDOM:
It really pains me to say this, but while I’ve never driven anything but Fords, my next vehicle will NOT have been assembled by a labor union. Period. And, I’ll move heaven and earth to keep my current vehicles running before buying another used one (I never buy new).
SoFloFreeper has loads of ideas!
In the past three hours, I have cut back my spending by nearly $2000 a year! Here is how I did it...and I am looking for more ideas.

1. Downgraded my cable tv service. We don't watch a ton of TV, but I like the news channels and sometimes I like watching sports. We also took back one of our "DVR receiver" boxes since we don't watch much tv in the bedroom.

Approximate savings: $45 a month/$540 a year.

2. Cut down on my home phone service...went from an unlimited monthly plan to a limited monthly plan. Someday we may get rid of the land line altogether, but it is still nice to have if the cell phones are charging or otherwise being used.

Approximate savings: $10 a month/$120 a year.

3. Quit the health club...not everyone in the family uses it...some of us do, but they'll have to use the "video game" exercise route--the Wii Fit, or whatever or maybe go outside and walk.

Approximate savings: $72 a month/$864 a year!

4. Lawn service...our guy comes by every two weeks at a cost of $30 a week. We will now have him come by ONCE A MONTH...yes, the grass will get a little longer in the summer time. Too bad. We'll deal with it.

Approximate savings: $420 a year!

Every person/business/company that has been affected by these decsions is being told it is a direct result of the election yesterday!

So there are some ideas....God bless you all.

Let's keep these great ideas going!! :)
SoFloFreeper's smugness - now with extra bugs!
Just saved another $780 a year!
I just got off the phone with my pest control service...told them to stop spraying...the very nice Hispanic lady on the phone asked me why, and I told her the election is making us change our budget.

She sighed deeply and told me she just got off the phone with someone else who told her the same thing--and she said she completely understands and is in the same boat!!!

Folks, this may be something that is being done in greater numbers than we realize!

Obamanomics is failing.
LibLieSlayer actually does close his business, to spite Obama:
I am going in this morning and annoucing that after 40 years... we are forced to close due to losses and taxes and regulations that we can no longer afford. HOW in the hell am I going to move on with MY life... when 40 years of my life was destroyed in four. What is wrong with you? Can’t you see past the end of your nose?
mkmensinger predicts Catholics will all go Galt:
All those blue state people are in for some surprises, even though they were warned. For one thing, all Catholic schools will begin to close after this year rather than obey the HHS mandate. I wonder if all these “blue” communities will be happy about the additional taxes they’ll be paying for all those new students. And Catholic hospitals (one out of six of all hospitals in the US) will close as well.
silverleaf has plans for a Christmas boycott:
I have the same goal. To shrivel away and not participate ion this economy to any greater extent than is absolutely necessary. Because obamas plans absolutely depend on citizens creating wealth that can be redistributed. That means our buying stuff that creates jobs for the mouth breathers who voted for obama, or for some peasant in China or Guatemala.

I suppose we can start with Christmas. What if Christians just STOPPED giving material things? Would our presence then be known by those who hold us in such contempt?

I can tell you that Hollywood gets not a red cent from me. I love movies but. Tom Hanks et al will have to pay their bills from royalties on the occasional DVD or rental flick.
PGalt's libertarian compound is going super well:
Already gone. It’s been working out very well the last 4 years. Non-essential spending is at a minimum. Immediate family gatherings have increased. Philosophies of freedom and faith are discussed regularly and grow stronger. Everybody is working and receiving awards/raises/accolades. Everyone is trained for using firearms. We are healthy, cohesive, coherent and have never been stronger. Life in this collective of family and friends is FANTASTIC!
jsheridan5 knows leaving America is tricky though...
I was thinking Costa Rica or some other Central American country or some place where the dollar will go further.

I would be very wary of any country like that. When the American economy implodes, and the global economy with it, which is now inevitable, I wouldn't want to be in a country that views me as a foreigner, and especially if there are larger, vehemently anti-American/anti-white, neighboring countries. Australia may be alright, but they too have problems. I would like Poland, but the world is going to be a much darker place, and Poland is usually not the place to be when that happens.
Jonty30 is a tough guy:
Keep in mind it only takes about 90 days to starve to death.

If it comes down to it, I can choose to starve to death rather than be enslaved.
For those who wonder, Jonty30 has a rather expansive view of slavery:
Powerful governments enslave the people. When the government takes from you, in the form of taxation, they are enslaving you. Whatever you do for a living, you cease to do it for your self and do it at the behest of the government.
So by my calculations, he's been dead for over 150 years.

qman has a rather easier way:
Going Galt is impossible, the next best alternative is bankrupt the system. That is very easy, get it while you can, cut back on your income, go on food stamps, get your ebt card, try to fit your life into every hand out that you can possibly receive, start taking more than you contribute, take it down fast, but have your guns ready because the takers will freak out when it’s all gone!
I look forwards to his cursing Clinton's welfare reforms.

lucyblue is gonna become a bitter alcoholic to better fight the good fight:
I went Galt a couple of years ago.

Think I’ll drink myself ALMOST to death and then go on disability. Have an acquaintance who did just that and now she makes more than she ever did working. She has better healthcare than I do too - and I pay over $630 a month for mine. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

I detest what this country has become.

  1. I think qman's idea was already brought up by MrB after the 2008 election.

  2. I hope Jim is taking notes. He's going to have to be a bit more frugal in his personal life from now on too. I can't imagine Freepers are going to pour money into Free Republic at the rate that they used to.

  3. 1) I too tip cash, but I don't call it "going Galt" - I'm just not an asshole to waitrons. That is some pretty anticlimactic weak sauce!

    2) I sincerely hope no one is starving themselves to death over this election. Thankfully, Freepers are total drama queens - guessing no one's actually missing any meals.

  4. Why is being frugal / cheap "Going Galt" ? If I remember correctly that was no part of his character and his plan was to force organizations to fiscally overstretch. I honestly think no conservative has actually read Atlas Shrugged.

*I don't blame them, the book is mind numbingly dull. It took me one year and all my willpower to finally finish it. The only message I got out of it was don't get drunk and drive coal powered trains through long tunnels.

  5. Someone better tell VRWCRick that Linux is designed and made by socialist Europeans, and sometimes named after African concepts like "Ubuntu" (humanity to others).

  6. Not all of us are producers. We can only Go Galt by not buying so much, thus not paying as much sales tax.

  7. "Linux is designed and made by socialist Europeans???"

You might want to explain that to Linus Torvalds. Oh, and he lives in Portland OR.

But that's ok, I don't expect libs to inhabit reality.

    1. Hey genius, Linus Torvalds grew up in Finland and lived there until he was 27 years old. And you think libs don't inhabit reality?
