RIP Roger Ebert

This had an interesting momentum. At first, Freepers were mostly gracious about the death of Roger Ebert. But then Mark Steyn said he was a good guy, but a liberal. Then we return to form:

DCBryan1 wants all who do not agree with him to die:
One less gun grabbing Commie. Good riddance!
Gets an 'attaboy for that one!

Fightin Whitey may be projecting a tad:
Ebert was a nasty bitter man who unfortunately died a nasty bitter death.

To my reading he wasn't a "critic" at all. He phoned in shallow left-leaning book reports for, as Mark Steyn more or less admits, a public looking for 20-second synopses.
laweeks is one of a number who think this is the time to hate on Oprah Winfrey:
the young woman took his advice and thus, we have the Oprah Winfrey show to thank Roger Ebert for

One of the most socially damning women to ever help destroy our country: an atheist, a left-wing liberal, a filth racist, a lesbian, etc.

Yeah, thanks a lot, Ebert. These slavish tributes to basically worthless people get me sick.

  1. You can always count on Freepers. No matter what happens, they can find a way to make the world a more miserable place.

  2. Every "obituary" thread for a liberal or democrat starts off with "we're freepers and conservatives and we keep it classy, unlike those at DU."

Within ten posts, they degenerate into foul name calling and hopes the decedent ends up in hell.

  3. For a classier Ebert obit that's still funny, The Onion: http://www.theonion.com/articles/roger-ebert-hails-human-existence-as-a-triumph,31945/

    1. Those are only the best ones - the thread is full of 'em. But you do have a point - the earlier threads are mostly nice, as I noted.
