I wonder, sometimes, if this is God's wrath upon us for not being more, well, violent, in defense of the innocents. Us VKers are all numb to this stuff but really, think how shocking and extreme it all is. Especially considering FR represents the mainstream core of the right wing.
ReplyDeleteThese folks are talking of treason. True treason, as in taking up arms and shooting politicians. And this is common talk there.
Now I really don't expect that these fatsos and shut-ins are really going to do anything - though there's always a couple deranged enough wing nuts that engage in violence - but it really is frightening when you think about it.
That said, I do laugh at some of their terminology, trying to sound like they're special ops or gangsters or something.

Boxlunch inadvertently gets to the root of the problem here. It's not that FReepers are aging and often infirm cowards, although many of them are; it's that deep down, even they don't really believe their rhetoric. Calling abortion murder is fun 'cause it sounds serious, and it demonizes women and liberals, but really, it's just one more thing they don't like about modernity...most of which they attack in equally lurid terms.
ReplyDeleteWhich is not to downplay how dangerous they are to women's health; hell, the fact that they're not gunning down providers and politicians every other week probably makes them more dangerous in the long run, legislatively speaking. But I still believe that for most of these people, abortion is ultimately more of a property-rights issue than a "Holocaust."
