Freepers suddenly love cops

Lest anyone doubt the far right is motivated by spite and factionalism more than small government or distrust of authority, Freepers' about-face from skepticism to embrace of militarized police once black people might be involved.

Here, Freepers react badly to Rand Paul's discussion of the police tactics in Furgeson.

Slump Tester:
Well, THIS conservative certainly isn’t. But they’re nice to have around when the natives are restless.
areukiddingme1 unironically repurposes that fascistic "A Few Good Men" speech, and the result is, if anything, even more frightening.
Rand Paul, we live in a world that has thugs, and those thugs have guns. Who’s gonna protect the public and your family from those thugs? You? You, Rand Paul? The Police have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom.

You weep for Brown and you curse the Police. You have that luxury Senator. You have the luxury of not knowing what the Police know, that Brown’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And the existence of the Police, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you Senator, saves lives!

You don’t want the truth, because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want the Police out there on patrol. You need the Police on patrol. The Police use words like “honor”, “code”, “loyalty”. The Police use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending citizens. You Senator, you use them as a punchline.

The Police have neither the time nor the inclination to explain themselves to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of protection that the Police provide, and then question the manner in which the Police provide it! We would rather you just said “thank you”, and went on your way.

Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, put on a badge, and patrol your own neighborhood or a neighborhood in Ferguson. Either way, the Police don’t give a damn what you think Senator! ~ Ripped off from A Few Good Men and modified.
NRA1995 knows there are 2 choices: racist cops, or no longer putting blacks in jail.
Is his solution to look the other way when blacks commit crimes? Or is it to sing to them and hold their hands so they will be peaceful and give up their violent ways?
NRA1995 isn't pro cop, he just always believes them over black people.
I am a law-and-order lover, not a cop lover. I think we’ve seen many many cases where they’ve gone over the top, but from the evidence that’s coming out, that boy deserved every bullet that hit him. Of course, convincing these street monkeys of that ain’t gonna happen with Holder, Jackson, Sharpton and OhVomit fanning the flames.
SampleMan also solves any hint of inconsistency by completely buying the police story.
It is not a conflict, but rather extremely consistent, that conservatives despise despotism when they see it.

I approached this case in Ferguson with a fully open mind. If the cop was shown to shoot a surrendering man with his hands up, he would be a murderer. If he was dealing with a violent attacker, it would be a justified shooting. All the evidence so far strongly supports the latter.
DoughtyOne lays out the exact facts the police claim, which clearly mean Brown's death was awesome. And that blacks must be carefully watched.
The facts are these.

A black man mixed it up with an officer, causing harm to the officer and causing his weapon to discharge during a scuffle.

This black man walked away from the officer’s vehicle, then turned and charged the officer.

The officer, already injured, fired his service weapon to end the threat to himself.

I would say it was unfortunate that a man died here, but in fact it is fortunate that man died. The officer is alive today because that man died. He very well could be dead right now.

At the end of the day, the message to me is this.

I don’t like officers having to use lethal force, but sometimes it is reasoned and necessary.

The message to Rand Paul is that officers need to be under even more scrutiny after this event. F—k you Rand Paul.

Where’s your demand that blacks be under even more scrutiny?
dirtboy knows the courts these days are totally pro-black and anti-police.
The point is that black residents of Ferguson had ample reason to suspect the shooting was not justified and to worry that the official investigation would be rigged in Wilson's favor.

As opposed to what? The example of the politically rigged prosecution of George Zimmerman? If anything, liberal politics will ensure Wilson will be railroaded and prosecuted no matter what evidence exists that he acted properly and in self-defense - witness Governor Nixon's remarks.
Dr. Thorne - only conservatives are objective.
Libertarians are like Leftists. They have their ideological religion and their faith is unshakable even when proven wrong. Eyes shut, fingers in ears, humming loudly. Like Leftists, they also think they are the smartest people in the room. Think the execrably smug John Stossel.
driftless2 explains that "many major cities are virtual war zones due to black criminals"
I will concede them the argument that we don’t need every locality having militarized police armed to the teeth. However, many major cities are virtual war zones due to black criminals. And that is not the fault of the police. Libertarians do themselves no good when they try to snuggle up criminals in the name of seeking justice for both sides.
GraceG keeps it rural.
I am more of a “Sheriff lover” than a “Cop lover”, but it depends on where you live and which one of the two is more corrupt at the time...
Despite the entire thread, lavaroise knows who the real cop lovers are!
Liberals are cop lovers... Always whining to some cop, foreign or domestic, and snitching and threatening
yefragetuwrabrumuy - Conservatives love police correctly; liberals love police all evil and wrong.
Police reform means two very different things to conservatives and leftists.

To conservatives it means that police regularly use police weapons and tactics, not military weapons and tactics, and that their purpose is to be “peace officers”, not “public control paramilitaries”.

Once they are returned to proper function, their purpose is to “enforce the law”, not of their creation, but of the elected government. Conservatives also think there are far too many laws on the books, some of which are clearly good, but many of which are frivolous, irrational or unfair, so should be removed. So in this way there needs to be “legal reform” that is not directed at the police but at the government.

Leftists, on the other hand, imagine police as “public control paramilitaries” *first*, but on an unfair basis, based on the choices and whims of the leftists. They want themselves, their friends and allies, to be immune from arrest and imprisonment; but at the same time, they want the police to brutally oppress their enemies.

Rand Paul, I’m afraid, is adopting the leftist outlook, with his “explicitly decrying the system’s disproportionate impact on African Americans.”

  1. It's been interesting to see this whole discussion take hold on FR. At first the comments were about how police were too militarized and corrupted by Obama and Eric Holder, but soon their dislike for black people overtook this view. Ultimately they hate blacks more than they hate cops.

    1. No, my friend. They just hate.

I dared to suggest on one thread the Mr. Brown will probably have a negative toxicology report, and the two killing shots were totally accidental - the cop was firing fast and Mr. Brown collapsed for the final two. I got a few private messages about that, and they weren't exactly Happy Birthday wishes.

Adrenaline makes people do stupid shit. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Brown was stoked already from the robbery. The cop didn't know that. The cop was stoked from a punch to the face and the struggle for the gun. Think of bull fighting with two bulls and no matador.

  2. If you want a fascinating peek at right wing take on the Michael Brown shooting, go to the National Review and Red State. I can't believe it, some of their writers are actually upset about police behavior in this case. I could even call some of their responses "thoughtful." Never thought I would use that word in respect to these two sites.

But then some yahoo posts a barely disguised racist diatribe and a bunch of members vote it way up.

    Interesting.

  3. They can't agree on whether or not the cop had a fractured eye socket. Doesn't really change their opinion either way. Meanwhile, CNN and other sources report that the fractured eye socket is bunk:
"I’ve been worried about this. People keep saying it’s true but never provide a source. Please, if you know anything, provide a source. Else we’re in deep doo doo."

"We"? Who is this "we" that's in deep doo doo?
It is possible to cling to a point of view so strongly as to prove it can't possibly be true.

Really, would it make any difference to their verdict if someone did?

  4. "It wasn’t just any thug. . .it was an almost 300 pound, 6 foot four thug."
I forgot to add that Michael Brown gets taller and fatter with every post. Tall and fat is now a capital offense. Better stay indoors from now on.

  5. And I have no idea what the point of this diatribe even is!

She actually tells a different version of that story, but with a bit more detail and smugness.

I wonder if she has figured out yet why they are "cafe au lait" and not "black like tires"? Maybe she needs someone to explain it for her.

  6. Right. Because the penalty for any petty crime or midemeanor must be death. Gotta love that pro-life attitude!
