RIP Robin Williams

Now this is an interesting thread.

Robin Williams was famous, but I'll admit the huge reaction surprised me. I think the fact that his style was so happy has a great deal to do with the extraordinary reserve of affection for him.

What makes this so interesting is that Freepers are not immune to William's charms. So the grave-dancing you'd see for most non-conservative deaths was kept to a minimum, with Freepers acting mostly like humans.

Except for the few whose partisanship has made them assholes to an inhuman extent.

It is on these Xtreme Freepers that I shall be focusing, though some touching normals also make it in.

Rockpile is just a hipster asshole.
This year has seen fine comic losses in Tim Wilson, John Pinnette and Harold Ramis.

Robin Williams? Oh well.
GeronL:
He had a lot of good roles but I never wanted to see him open his mouth without a script
Neoliberalnot is skeptical that liberal Williams actually did USO tours because he liked the troops.
Robin Williams may not have shared your politics, but he also did multiple tours in the Middle East supporting our soldiers.

He did, I give him and his PR director credit for promoting his positive image. I just hope he meant it. Most of holywood has nothing but disdain for those in the military.
sickoflibs's gay panic seems out of control:
There is something feminine-like about Robin Williams characters that makes it hard for me to enjoy them.
Captain7seas has a cause, and he's sticking to it!
First question: Was he on anti-depressants?
Noted medical expert editor-surveyor:
Anti-depressants usually cause one to do harm to others, not one’s self. (every mass shooter has been on them)
editor-surveyor again:
Use of mind altering drugs is always stupid, but TV advertising is doing its best to hide that fact.
DoughtyOne is too angry at liberals to not hate Williams at least as much as he enjoyed his work:
I have enjoyed some of his stuff. I’m going to pretty much sit this one out having said what I have. There’s no love lost with the far left whack-jobs that can’t quite grasp that they should be speaking out in objection to this president.

May he rest in peace. It’s probably more than we’re going to get in the near future.
Morgana gets in her dig:
This all proves how liberialism is a mental illness. RIP MORK!!
Amazingly, GrandJediMasterYoda blames Obama:
A lot of people are killing themselves ever since the worst President in US history took office, and that is no joke. Two people I know killed themselves. I’m 51 and I never knew anybody who committed suicide, yet in only 4 years 2 of them who couldn’t deal with depression. . This world is going through some major evil crap and people can’t deal with it, and this piece of rat filth is living it up playing golf.
DIRTYSECRET:
If it was suicide then it was a cowardly act. Like an abortion.
What the hell, MaxMax?
I always think of Suicide as a "feel sorry for me" attention grab.
Jumping in a wood chipper on a burning boat 100-miles out to sea
wouldn't be selfish imo. Just gone.
PapaNew knows Christians are never depressed or diseased:
Jesus heals EVERY and ALL diseases and he does so, as it says here, because he has compassion on us. Disease is an intruder, a robber that has committed breaking and entering into a person's life. But Jesus has come to kick the robber out and restore abundant life to people because he loves them and has already paid the price for their diseases.
Then editor-surveyor just goes crazy all over the thread:
Suicide just seals your ticket to hell quicker.
editor-surveyor knows you can't be rich and sad:
Sad the conditions under which these impoverished Marxists have to live.

It must be the 1%’s fault.
editor-surveyor is pretty righteous about telling everyone Williams is in Hell.
Yes, I know, the truth is always a downer to you.

The people that need to hear the truth are here on this thread, and I would be remiss if I didn’t try to share the truth with them.

We don’t need more Robin Williams clones.
Though Mr Ramsbotham agrees that what the depressed need is less empathy and understanding:
Suicide nowadays is being treated exactly like unwed pregnancy. When the latter was stigmatized, we had very little of it; when empathy and understanding became the order of the day it became an epidemic. Ditto with drug abuse; with alcoholism; and almost any other vice you'd care to name. It's a sign of the sickness of our times.
editor-surveyor's insults are weird.
Seriously you need to shut up and get out of this thread.

Take your own advice, and do it soon.

You are a destroyer!
Luircin is at least aware of the right's reputation:
Thank you so VERY much for being a stereotype. Perhaps you’d like to go to his funeral and declare that Williams is burning in hell too?
Admin Moderator steps in, re: editor-surveyor
Get off the thread.

  1. It's funny that I read threads on FR now and I think to myself "I wonder if Oz is having as much fun reading this as I'm." This was one of those threads! Especially while I read all of editor-surveyor's posts. I thought about linking it here, but somehow I knew it would show up without my involvement.

  2. Editor Surveyor is a loon..said cancers etc is caused by sin on old post.

I was also surprised how many freepers stuck up for Robin Williams but I think it has to do that many of them also suffer from depression and other forms of mental illness and many have said such on the various threads

    1. There's very few people who don't have some adoration for him. His career in the past 15 years has been embarrassing, but even then some great laughs have been from his humor. And being a great person too helps.

    2. I think empathy with people they knew going through depression was part of it, but there is more to it, as packman_jon says.

I've never seen more Freepers post "he was a liberal but I liked him anyway."

  3. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3192976/posts' She is definitely a Freeper. She's got all of their talking points.
"They are feral and violent. They murder each other. They murder their unborn babies. They murder white people. They hate police officers and murder some of them, even black ones. They destroy neighbors and entire cities with garbage and drugs. They live their lives off the hard-earned tax dollars of other Americans. Yet somehow they are victims. What insanity is that?"

  4. Question:
What do freepers say when conservatives commit suicide ?
    Just wondering.

    1. That clearly they were not conservatives after all.

  5. Seriously? Unwed pregnancies were rare in the past because they were stigmatized? I've got news for you - they happened, more then today, before birth control, just nobody middle-class or up talked about it. Poor people apparently didn't count as part of 'polite society,' so nobody cared, except to criticize them. Nobody drank themselves to death back then? Seriously? Seriously? And since when did society have sympathy for drug addicts? Particularly ones you don't already know personally?

  6. Yes, editor-surveyor, mind altering psychiatric medications are, in fact, a good idea. I have first-hand experience with somebody who couldn't function without them, and no major side effects with them, either.

  7. Anyone got a link for "Live at the Met?" For the life of me, I can't find it and I'd like to watch what was probably his finest performance one more time. He turned it up to 11 then snapped off the knob on that one.

    2. Thank you!!!!!

I just had one of those days where search wasn't working right.

It's pure genius and total stream of conscious. There is no way he could have scripted it.
