As Freepers continue their amusing but repetitive spiral into Ebola madness (more of a circle really - the spiral cannot get any tighter), I luckily found a pretty neat little post. It seems long time Freeper NormsRevenge was drinking and watching the game, and got a little misty and nostalgic, as people do. And a bunch of Freepers show up to talk about the site, remember zotted friends, get into pissing matches, and blame liberals and RINOS for its decline.

I really enjoy links to other websites, particularly when there are comments after the articles, for it expands my understanding of the opinions of others around the ‘net.

DU is an exception - for they are parrots, and are probably incapable of forming opinions.

rlmorel only reads Free Republic, and has no worries about bias.

I use FR as my jumping off point for the Internet, where I go to find out what is going on in the world.

I don’t watch television, haven’’t since about 1997. Don’t read papers. Don’t read rags like Time. Don’t listen to radio.

I come to FR every day, and investigate things from here. Normally, I would have worried about ideological tunnel vision, but it is pretty clear the way things are laid out, I am not missing anything.

When it is a military issue, this is where I come. I need information about aviation, there are good sources here at FR. Energy? People like Thackney. And so on.

I do miss some of the earlier folks as well who don’t come here anymore, have been kicked off, or have passed away.

Speaking of missing people, DaiHuy remembers some.

Remember Alamo Girl. She was ine of my favorites. How bout DeepintheHurtgenForrest, what ever happened to him?

ClearCase_guy also recalls the zotted and quiescent.

I believe pissant got zotted for constantly making insults against Sarah Palin and other women in politics. It was a few years ago.

He got the zot for siding with the ex-Freepers on the TrueBlue crybaby forum. Apparently, he was running down JimRob in pm's to others.

I remember "the Comedian." He was genocidal about Muslims and liberals, a birther, and racist even before racism on Free Republic was cool.

NormsRevenge explains that Free Republic's dwindling numbers don't reflect reality.

The number of users has dropped a lot over the years. Guess it just reflects the reality of liberals now being the majority. Fr might not exist in tten years at this rate.

LiveFree99 also sees a decline.

I’ve been here for years and have noticed the slow decline in the quality of the postings. There are still some insightful comments and some good discussions and informative threads, but many seem to devolve into stupid arguments and personal insults and one-upmanship. FR is still good for breaking news, though.

zerosix is lurking these days due to the toxicity.

Not ALL of "us" are gone.

Some of "us" are still here but some have gone on to their resting place but some have simply moved on for various reasons. I think others might still "lurk" without commenting due to reasons of being attacked for their honest comments.

FR has some people who can't tolerate a comment questioned, politely, of course, without becoming reactionary.

Cry if I Wanna is totally not complaining.

A lot of Freepers have been banned time and time again. Many come back each time, but some tire of the banishments and just become passive lurkers. I'm a newby, but a long time Freeper who has been banned six times introduced me to FR. I guess Jim runs a tight ship. But it takes its toll. I'm not complaining btw.

In my opinion, it's a direct result of the stultifying presence of GOP-e bots and the doom and gloom brigade. Folks with better minds get turned off and stay away.

Have done some analysis on that. Not ready to lay it all out, but I can put the blame squarely on Obama and his democrat sycophants.

As a result, a direct result, the country, and the Republican party which was already is tatters, has sectioned off in pieces and no longer trusts any government agency of any kind at all much less each other...

Of course it is mostly seen on the republican, independent and libertarian sides of the political spectrum, but it also beginning to affect the democrats. Not the usual progressive liberals, but the democrat voters who date back to the Roosevelt democrats and are much more moderate but vote straight ticket just as many Reagan repubs do.

The country, my country, is cracking like a egg and all the stuff is held in by the membrane only.

I don’t know who can put humpty dumpty back together again, or even if it’s worth doing...

Graybeard58 - Freepers are old and a bit sad.

I survived a nasty heart attack less than a month and a 1/2 ago. Stents inside and a stint in the hospital. After surviving, it dawned on me that had I died, nobody at FR would have known.

I’m going to have to rectify that with my kids.

I have two sons and a g/daughter who are members here. I've already written my "For Real" opus. To be posted post mortem.
