Jade Helm is too crazy for Freep

So, why is Free Republic skeptical of the right-wing tin-foil fest over this year's iteration of the regular military exercises in Texas? It's all over the right wing media, it has Cruz, the TX governor, and both Paul's on board. It's exactly what they're talking about when they talk about any how black violence is Obama's martial law plan.

Yet Freepers are going the "this isn't a conspiracy, it's about accountability" rout.

Maybe in these days of Freeper hipsterism, they don't much like conspiracies that aren't locally grown?

rockinqsranch's paranoia seems basically under control:
I don’t like Obama. I don’t like the military exercises ongoing, but I don’t think even this administration of his is stupid enough to start gun grabbing piece meal around the country. Word would spread, and it would become more difficult for them to do so.
Billthedrill is also skeptical, but explains that the government's contempt for conspiracy theorists is very sinister:
I do think the thing has been blown out of proportion a bit, but I also think the attempt on the part of the media to relegate legitimate concerns about the matter has a little more mockery in it than is supported by fact, and if you don't believe me, I'll leave comment to the Cherokee, the Nez Perce, and the Sioux. There is absolutely nothing wrong with citizens demanding an accounting by their federal government. There is nothing paranoid, nothing misplaced, only an absolutely justifiable requirement that the federal government be accountable for its activities.

I highly doubt this is either any takeover or a dress rehearsal for it - the personnel are entirely wrong, for one thing, for another, it would be so far out of bounds of the U.S. military that it scarcely bears considering. This is not about paranoia, fantasies, or post-apocalyptic fiction. This is about accountability. If the federal government is dismayed about the very existence of people's concerns, then its personnel might benefit from asking themselves why it is.
Even Lazamataz, whose been into the martial law bit lately, settles for a rather modest 'it's getting us used to government forces:'
There is ONE troubling issue, though, that Travis McGee points out: This also could involve 'conditioning'. Right now, we are shocked when we see convoys of military vehicles on domestic roads. We are alarmed when troops are moving around towns in full battle rattle. We are frightened when military helicopters hover and military aircraft roar overhead.

However, enough of these sort of training exercises, and we will become conditioned to these sights and sounds, and we do not sound the alarm at the appropriate time.
batterycommander traces this back tothe Civil War:
I think that there is still a general resentment of the Union’s reconstruction period in Texas and other places in the South that leaves a sour taste in the mouths of southerners. This occupation in the civil area by the Federal forces seems like it could lead to that type of occupation. Texans are suspicious of Obama’s motives with good reason. The BLM occupation of private ranches and mines in the West lead one to think that Obama is becoming a dictator, and he has his eyes on the Texas border and other Texas areas and he is attempting to subdue a stubborn people who still believe in God and the Second Ammendment.
WhiskeyX just generally endorses conspiracies:
The problem with conspiracy theories is that real conspiracies are quite common and the deliberately faked conspiracy theories designed to deceive and the tinfoil hat mistaken conspiracy theories which deceive and mislead are even more common than the real conspiracy theories. The problem faced by the ordinary citizen is having the means and talent to accurately distinguish between the real and the not real conspiracy theories.
lonestar67 argues that liberals can't be anti war AND not paranoid about these exercises:
What I find fascinating with regard to all those mocking Governor Abott is the privilege of their hypocrisy.

When US troops deploy outside our borders, they are baby killers, kill women and children, massacre civilians on and on.

When US troops detain or hold order outside our borders they engage in torture and inhumane cruelty to pretty much all they encounter.

But when the Fed government orders a deployment of special forces to Texas, then there is absolutely no reason to suspect anything.

It highlights how the only true evil the Left believes in is the American conservative.

Similarly, police in our country willfully want to kill innocent blacks but there are no risks from a large federal deployment of special operations forces in texas.

The sense of selective outrage and moral reasoning privileged to the Left is ridiculous.
dp0622 loves that Ted Cruz is on the bandwagon:
It’s like he’s one of us. Asking the same questions we ask. Wanting accountability. He rocks.
Paladin2 learns wrong things:
I just learned that Texas is larger than Alaska. (And 2x Montana which seems like a big place)

    1. I guess he never heard the song "Anchored Down in Anchorage." Or made it through the fourth grade.

I didn't look - did anyone ever correct that?
